I am teaching a class in my home that you
might want your child to participate in. This class is called Biztown and it is offered through Junior Achievement in Nashville. In short, this is a class for 4th
thru 8th graders and is about business economics. We learn about the flow of an economy,
banking (including checkbook skills), learning to interview for a job and other
job-related skills, creating a business plan, creating a prototype for a
business, appropriate skills for the job environment and much more. Everything they learn in class will be used
during our field trip in a simulated town at the Junior Achievement facility in
Nashville. Junior Achievement will assign to us certain businesses in the town and the children will apply and interview
for jobs within those businesses.
They will then work within those business groups in class. Each class session has at least one group activity (usually there are 2), and the kids have a blast!
There is also an opportunity for a limited number of parents to volunteer at the JA
Biztown field trip. Parent volunteers would be provided a free training session offered through Jr. Achievement.
The class will run from January thru April 2015. We will meet each Thursday (with some exceptions) from 1-3 pm at my
home in the Rockvale area about two miles from Highway 96 and Veterans Pkwy. The cost is $150 plus a $20 workbook/field
trip fee. I can only take a limited number of students, so if you are interested, please email me at psalm55@bellsouth.net. First payment is due the first day of class, which will be January 15, 2015.
I have taught public school for ten years, seven of which were in middle school in
Smyrna and Murfreesboro and in Kansas City, MO and Nashville, IL. I have been homeschooling for seven years. I have taught Biztown for the last 5 years and have had wonderful students. I hope your child will be a part of Biztown this school year!
